Animals with Special Needs

Perhaps you have a special place in your home for an ARF dog or cat with special needs? Or perhaps you have a special place in your heart to make a donation to ARF’s Hope Fund to help these and other ARF animals like them?

ARF’s Hope Fund helps pay for veterinary and other special needs of animals rescued by ARF's rescue patrol. Helping these abandoned animals is an important part of ARF's mission. Although the expense may be cost prohibitive for these ARF shelter guests, the transformation is nothing short of a miracle. Only through your generous donations can ARF continue this life-enriching work.

Deeley

Deeley is a big sensitive guy who will flourish in a quiet, low traffic environment. He will be a constant companion to his adopters and may be needy at times. It is essential that his mental and physical needs are met everyday, multiple times a day. A basic manners training class may be just what he needs to come out of his shell. Deeley is hearing impaired. Deeley is rated for homes with children fourteen years and older.

FELINES WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Sweet Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes is a social girl who loves to be wherever you are. She loves to chat and will meow for your love. Sweet Potatoes requires ongoing medication for hyperthyroidism and MUST BE INDOOR ONLY. She is suitable for a first time cat owner.

Anya
7-month-old Anya is a wonderful cat who enjoys life. She can be a little shy at first, but once she gets to know you Anya is very affectionate. Anya has a heart condition which does not currently need medication but will need to be monitored. She must be an INDOOR ONLY cat because of her health issues. She would appreciate a calm, quiet household.

Sasha
1-year-old Sasha is a quiet girl looking for a calm home. She needs a family that is going to spend a lot of time with her to help her come out of her shell. Sashais FIV positive and will need to be INDOOR ONLY. She would appreciate a calm, quiet household.

Christian

Gobble

7-year-old Gobble is a charming fellow who will bring lots of love to your family. He is very sweet and social. This little cutie would make a great addition to your family as he loves to be around people. Gobble must be INDOOR ONLY because he is FIV positive. He is suitable for a first time cat owner. Gobble is a Sidekick

Scrimmage

5-year-old Scrimmage has lots of love to share and is very sweet girl. This sweetheart is a special needs kitty because she is diabetic and declawed in front. Since she’s been declawed, it would be best if she were in a home with another declawed cat or very gentle, non-aggressive cat. Also, this would necessitate that she be an indoor cat ONLY. She is a very gentle girl who lives for affection and is easy to give her insulin.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

FIV is a virus in the same family of viruses as Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). FIV is a cat-only disease and people cannot catch FIV from their cats. FIV is only spread between cats by bite wounds and blood transfusions. FIV cannot be spread casually - unless an FIV kitty bites another cat, the virus cannot spread. There is no reason cats with FIV should not be in loving homes. FIV cats can often live long and normal lives. Some cats live a long time with this virus, often with no symptoms at all. FIV cats have a lot to offer a family and should not prevent a delightful feline from coming into a loving home.
